The world must be saved once again and you do that course by traveling across the globe

In Bravely Second Review XGN look at the latest JRPG from Square Enix and Silicon Studio. Is the sequel to Bravely Default worthwhile?

Japanese Role Playing Games are not for everyone. The genre is often traditionally a stoic manner, with many outdated game elements and a clichéd storyline. Fun for the fans, but for the rest it is not all that exciting. Do Bravely Second convince us, or is this JRPG only for the real die hard fans?

Bravely Second Review

Kingdom in trouble
Of course Bravely Default Bravely Second sequel to 2013 and takes place then two and now a half years after that game. The Luxendarc kingdom is once again in trouble and it's up to newcomers Yew Geonolgia and Magnolia Arch to join hands with veterans Edea Lee and Tiz Arrior. Why? To save the world from a thoroughly evil emperor of course!

Nothing new on the horizon for RPG lovers. The world must be saved once again and you do that course by traveling across the globe, monsters to chop in the pan and meet colorful people with their own problems. Second bravely should therefore not have the originality of the story, but the charm where the game has so much in stable.

The main characters, enemies and villains are designed in a cute and recognizable way, and each have their own unique personality. This makes the fact that the dialogue may continue forever something tolerable. If you still can switch again between English and Japanese voices (the full game is almost spoken) makes us only happier. The interactions between the characters, which are also just skip, make Bravely Second more than worthwhile.

Brave and Default
In terms of gameplay, it is also more than mustache. Although Bravely Second intent standard JRPG material appears, it is in many new gameplay elements that really make the game worthwhile. Rather than simply attacking a turn-based manner are creating Bravely Second brave and use the default system in which the game is named.

This is a kind of dynamic between offense and defense, where you can choose to make a turn not to attack in order to do so the next turn two actions, or where you do impulsive four actions in succession but then nothing can do more. It all makes for an interesting risk / reward system that the game to a higher level than the average tilt JRPG.

Thereby reverse the jobs out Bravely Default (and the Final Fantasy games) also come back. Besides the known job as White Mage, Thief Bravely Second Freelancer and also introduces comic and creative jobs as Catmancer and Pirate increasing. All these different jobs ensure that the game is interesting and remains after you put dozens of hours into the game.

A job for you
It is just as well that the jobs and the combat system after hours remains interesting, because the playing time of Bravely Second is not to be sneezed at. The normal story should keep you going for hours busy, although the playing time will be much shorter if you skip all the dialogue scenes decision. The game also continues to derive again with a lot of side quests and mini-games, making it easy to get distracted.

This has its advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand it's nice that you get presented with more than enough content for your money anyway, and you certainly have not saved the world after a train trip Amsterdam-Groningen. It is a pity that Bravely Second at some point comes across a little wordy. Perfect for when you travel a lot less at home on the couch.

It is also unfortunate that the fascinating world created is not utilized to the utmost. As a player you are hand held in a very linear adventure through Luxendarc, which is basically nothing wrong with it, of course. Still, we would have preferred a non-linear approach because Bravely Second at times too linear. Of discovering a big world do not exist, except where the story dictates it.

Bravely Second Review

storybook
Not only in terms of gameplay, but also graphically Bravely Second to feast. The Nintendo 3DS is not known for pioneering great graphics, but we were impressed by the quality of Bravely Second. Characters are sharp, the effects during fights are beautiful and the surroundings are beautiful. Especially the villages which have bit like an interactive storybook, surprised us again and again.

Also fit the musical arrangements with the character who is trying to put down the game. Bravely Default simply knows how to create a convincing overall picture where you happy to listen, watch and play.

Bravely Second Review - A modern classic
Second bravely succeeded an trusted, yet to be refreshing addition to the RPG library of Nintendo 3DS. The brave and default system and the different jobs keep the game fresh during the sometimes lengthy playing time. Value for money you get for sure, even if only for the sheer amount of recorded votes in both Japanese and English.

Bravely Default if you already are, it's a no brainer to let Bravely Second adorn your 3DS in the closet. Fortunately, the game for newcomers also excellent palatable, much foreknowledge of the first part is not required. In other words, Bravely Second is highly recommended for all users 3DS.
