The first months did nothing until I dropped by the left rear spring in Amsterdam

After starting my first job, i needed a car that obviously was not too expensive and frugal. The brother of my grandfather had just deceased and polo had been quiet for a while. The widow had no driver's license and the car had gone. The good man had then bought him of the money he had won in a lottery. He used the car to drive to his visstekkie and 1 once a week to the supermarket.
The classic tale of old man with hat also here was not only stood inside and prime the tapes even though he was not. At the time of purchase the car was 9 years old. And the tires had or still good profile but they were replacing. Rust was not in sight and the only options were a rear shelf (!!) and green tinted glass. I could do worse with a first car, it was technically as good as new. With its 45 hp engine and a absolute basis vierbak car, then too. But I was very happy.

For 4500 guilders I could take him.

The first months did nothing until I dropped by the left rear spring in Amsterdam. The first year we went on holiday to Switzerland with the polo. On the autobahn you have not so much to seek with so little power and A four but with good anticipation denotes the fast guys as little as possible in the way.
Top speed even tried .... 140 km on the clock. Well ..
In Switzerland climbed the grimsel and Furka Pass. But he did not not budge. The whole holiday went smoothly.

Two years later and made short holiday in Luxembourg. Also about the poor Belgian motorways was the suspension of us smoothly enough.

In the seven years that we have driven the polo, the car we never leave. Oil nil. With this car I never replenished oil. That's when all cars after it though !!
If maintenance just replace the normal wear parts. The shock absorbers and brake discs I replaced with help himself. Furthermore, replacing the old cassette / radio player with a radio with CD player and a good set of speakers and therefore the single mono speaker was mounted on the dashboard retire ....
The Michelin tires went along for 75,000 km and 125,000 km behind.
Then replaced Toyo's, which I bought just because they were on sale. The French slippers then always longed.
Consumption on the highway was always at around 1 in 15, 1 in 16.

As had selected with the arrival of a baby for a Volvo 440 with additional rear doors and larger trunk, a second car, the Polo was more to it.
And had two cars in succession after a year have been sold with a heavy heart to a woman around for 900 guilders.
But we are often on the polo when we talk about the holidays we have had with them. And if I could I would have redeemed him most.
Now I can say it is one of the best cars we've had after so many years.
